About the Artist

Hi, I’m Ben

I’m so glad you found me and BW Black Photography. Capturing the authentic beauty and emotion of fleeting moments is my passion. Photographs have a way of preserving memories in a vivid and timeless way. When I discovered how deeply they connect us to our past and to each other, I was hooked.

I grew up under the sunny skies of Southern California, drawn to understanding the world beneath the surface. From people and language to mathematics and art, I’ve always been captivated by nuance and detail. While I excelled in English and literature, my home base was quantitative analysis and performing arts. This passion led to a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, Technical Management from Johns Hopkins, and a fulfilling career in IT and enterprise analytics. These days, when I’m not behind the lens, I lead a big-data cloud computing initiative for NASA.

Aviation is another deep passion. I earned my first pilot’s license before my driver’s license. Flying combines skill, precision, and analytics in a way that resonates deeply with me. Whether navigating through clouds, ridge soaring in a glider, or sticking a landing in a tail dragger the experience is always exhilarating.

My wife, Tiffaney, helps me keep my feet on the ground. As a native of the Jersey Shore, a classically trained musician, art historian, certified yoga instructor, and mindfulness facilitator she adds richness and connection to our lives. Together, we’re active in animal rescue brightening our home with three Springer Spaniels, two cats, and a revolving door of foster animals.

Photography is where all these passions intersect – creativity, precision, and storytelling. Today, Tiffaney and I support clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. I’d love the chance to share my art and help you tell your story beautifully and authentically.
